Unlike copyrighted materials, “copyleft” medical books and resources from WikiDoc are free to use and the result of the ongoing collaboration of healthcare professionals all over the world. Just like Wikipedia, this open platform is editable and designed to make it easier for medical professionals to share what they’ve learned as well as use it as a reference. There’s a “patient” section, too, for us laymen.
Click on the virtual text book of your choice and you’re taken to a page which is (refreshingly) laid out without any whistles and bells, just straightforward, alpha drill-down by topic. There’s also a search feature. The WikiDoc About Us page gives a thorough overview of the strengths and weaknesses of this sort of information collaboration and explains the mechanisms in place to keep it as accurate and up-to-date as possible.
